From Deck Cadet to Master isn’t just a maritime guide— it’s a real-world playbook for aspiring officers who want to rise through the ranks with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
Capt. Andrew Mendoza, who began his journey with no maritime background and only a dream sparked by a pocketbook and a newspaper ad, shares hard-earned lessons from the engine rooms to the bridge wing. Through grit, sacrifice, and determination, he climbed each rank until reaching command.
This book reveals the untold realities of shipboard life:
-
The challenges faced and lessons learned the hard way
-
The mindset required to lead not just technically, but morally and mentally
-
Practical guidance rooted in lived experience—not theory
Whether you’re a wide-eyed cadet or a junior officer aiming higher, this book is your compass for navigating the maritime profession. Leadership begins with preparation, growth with willingness—your journey to mastery starts here.
