ISKANDAR PUTERI: BaseConf 2020 Powered by Techsauce Global Summit became the biggest regional business and technology conference to have occurred in Iskandar Malaysia. The two-day event, held at Iskandar Malaysia Studios saw more than 900 attendees and exposed them to the local startup ecosystem and provided attendees with invaluable knowledge sharing with more than 50 regional speakers from the startup & tech world of Southeast Asia, as well as providing exposure for more than 58 startup companies from the region.

The diverse event featured highly curated activities designed for the local and international community which includes Corporate Innovation, Venture Investment, Startups War Stories, Digital Transformation, Future Technology, and E-Commerce. Other activities and showcases planned include Keynote & Panel Discussions, Tech Exhibitions, Workshops & Masterclasses, Business & Investor Matching as well as several networking sessions.

“Baseconf 2020 is our statement to the country, the region & the world, there’s a lot of serious innovation going on in the Johor startup ecosystem, there are great entrepreneurs & startup companies in this city and anyone can build a successful startup outside of any capital city.”

 

“It does not need to be Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong or Silicone Valley, it can be done in here in Johor, places like Penang, Melaka, Kuching and in fact any city around the world,” said Feng Lim, CEO of START Malaysia during the opening of BaseConf 2020.

 

Organized by START Malaysia in partnership with Techsauce Media Thailand showed the potential of the Digital Age, inspiring companies to new ideas, technologies, new management and business models that allows new channels of market access. This, coupled with the ease of technological access, platforms, and capital goods is changing our understanding of the production and distribution of wealth, allowing anyone a chance to leverage on Digital Commoditisation.

“Our mission is to provide that opportunity to everyone, whether they are old or young, seasoned tech entrepreneurs or people who don’t know what a startup is, and want to know more, those who are privileged or those struggling to make their dreams come through.”

 

“We believe that technology is an equalizer, that everybody can tap into that same free WIFI, use the same tools, read the same blogs and media portals and access, the means that they can improve their lives,” said Charoenphan, Executive Chairman & Co-Founder of Hubba Thailand & Techsauce during his opening notes.

 

Present for the closing ceremony was YB Jimmy Puah Wee Tse, Johor International Trade, Investment, and Utilities Committee Chairman who has been vocal in elevating the digital economy of the state.

“It is my utmost pleasure to see that an international business & tech conference like this has been successfully held in Johor Bahru. I believe that events like this will bring substantial changes to JB and Johor Gov & Jceb will continue to support and organize such fascinating events in the coming years,” said YB Jimmy.

 

He also took the opportunity to announce the Johor E-commerce Accelerator Programme powered by START Malaysia, which aims to kickstart the e-commerce ecosystem in Johor.

 

“The Johor State government recently announced the budget to allocate RM1 million to boost e-commerce businesses in Johor and the objective is to help participants in Johor get on the right track, provide a platform to cultivate them, and help them expand their businesses, which in turn increases the revenue of the Johor Digital Economy,” said YB Jimmy.

 

The Johor International Trade, Investment and Utilities Committee Chairman added that it is a holistic program that not only provides financial support, but also a conducive environment that allows budding entrepreneurs to learn from some of the best professionals in the business.

Among the ecosystem leaders, angel investors and large corporations who were present at BaseConf2020, with speakers including the likes of Kevin Lee of Lazada Malaysia, Jeffrey Paine of Golden Gate Ventures, Dr. Lu Gang from Technode, Hendrik Susanto from Traveloka, Yi Ping Goh from Quest Ventures as well as Surina Shukri from MDEC, Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil Zahruddin Raja Abdul Aziz from Khazanah Nasional Berhad as well as Datuk Ismail Ibrahim from the Iskandar Regional Development Authority.

 

BaseConf 2020 is endorsed by the Johor State Government and is HRDF claimable.
